A Day in the Life of Stephenia McGee!!

Hello friends! Welcome to this week’s addition of “A Day in the Life of”! I am so excited to have Stephenia with us today. She is truly a southern belle both in person and in her writing. My favorite book of hers is In His Eyes. It’s like I just read it yesterday…..(it was really like months ago!). Please help me in welcoming her to the blog today to share with us a glimpse of her daily routine 🙂

A typical day in the life of Stephenia McGee…

6:00 Hubby’s alarm goes off. Ignore it.

6:15 Hubby’s snooze alarm goes off. Ignore that and snuggle deeper under the covers

6:30 Time for these three to go outside, or things get messy.

6:45 Wake up these two little boys…

And get lunches made, book bags ready, children and animals fed, and everyone out the door by 7:30

7:30 – 8:00 Get coffee and go the four steps it takes to get to the office. Answer emails, check the day’s to-do lists (both A and B), pop onto FaceBook (try not to stay too long) and attempt to work with this face in my lap.

8:00 -10:00 Disappear into story world and aim for about 2,000 words on the current work in progress. Despite my regular computer with two big monitors, I’ve written every book here on the little computer Hubby bought me ten years ago when I decided I wanted to write.

10:30 – 11:45 Teach high school students all about the wonderful world of fiction. Find time to do lesson plans, homework sheets, and grade writing prompts. This is last year’s publication project.

12:00 Eat lunch while checking email and reading Facebook. That’s a baked potato with bacon, cheese and ranch dressing. Some days I’m good and eat a salad.

12:30 – 2:30 Do all needed business things for both myself and By The Vine Press. This is to-do list A and includes but is not limited to: Emails, newsletters, talking with editors, sending and checking print and ebook files, corresponding with authors, doing edits, working with cover artists, formatting gurus, professional editors and bloggers, contacting review sites, making marketing graphics, doing the banking an accounting, and…I’m sure I am forgetting something, so check in with my assistant to make sure I haven’t lost anything.

This is Becky. Assistant extraordinaire and general make-sure-By-The-Vine-Press-stuff-is-done lady.

2:45 Pick up little fellows from school

3:00 -4:00 Get them snacks, help with homework, make sure they do chores and music practice, and attempt to finish whatever is left on the day’s to-do list A. Hide in office (that doesn’t have a door) and ignore overheard arguments while they are doing chores.

9 year old: “Oh, yeah? Well, check the log in your own eye!”

8 year old: “Nope, I don’t got one.”

Well, at least they listened to devotionals…..

4:00 – 5:30 Attempt to make a dent in to-do list B. This includes dishes, starting laundry, and…I promise the kitchen is clean…sometimes. Depending on the day, run boys to baseball, basketball, or music lessons.

6:30 Supper. Some nights it is something that came out of a box or we eat the Lord’s chicken—like on all those activity nights…

Sometimes, I make something a little better. This counts as healthy, right…?

7:30 Work on more from to-do list B. Why is there always so much laundry? Are there extra people in my house I haven’t met?

7:00 – 8:30 Family time. Bible reading, games, movies, and/or chilling out time. Depends on the day and what’s going on.

8:30 – Put boys to bed. Repeat goodnights twice and avoid stall tactics.

8:45 – 10:00 Reading time and visit with Hubby. 15 years in August.

10:00 It’s bed time! Whew!

That’s it. The glamourous (ok, maybe not) life of a wife/mom/writer/teacher/publishing house owner.

Wow, so many things to do in one day! And I know what you mean about laundry. There is only three of us in our house, and yet there is laundry to do every single day! Thank you so much Stephenia for sharing your day with us!!

  1. One of the nicest things that happened at the CFRR last August was that (awful INTROVERT PANIC) moment when we were told to sit with people at lunch that we hadn’t yet met. It turned out that I found myself sitting next to this wonderful woman!

Thanks for a peek into Stephania’s day! I remember being so obsessed with having all the laundry done that I started to stress over the fact my three children were wearing clothes (therefore creating more dirty clothes!). It was a hamster wheel experience and yes I was quite possibly losing my mind. I’ve since moved on.
“the Lord’s Chicken” is just too funny! This northerner is waving at Stephania!

    Thanks Jessica

    1. I met her in the food line. I’m standing there waiting for my turn and I hear someone say, “We have to find Jessica Baker!” I turn around and it’s Stephenia and her assistant Becky! Awesome moment right there

  2. Loved this spotlight! Wow, don’t we all struggle with our “duties” as homemakers and mothers. This is especially true if we work or even more so if we work at home! Yet, thankfully, there are comedic moments too! Thanks for posting it!

I so enjoy your posts even if I don’t comment.

I have awarded you the lovely Liebster Award! For more information, go to https://captivedreamswindow.wordpress.com/
