A Valentine’s His Encouragement

Happy Valentine’s Day my friends!

I have to admit, I think Valentine’s day is overrated. Yes, my husband and I do stuff for each other every year, even when we say we aren’t going to. Nothing big, just a little something to let the other know that we love and appreciate them. My beef with this holiday is that we shouldn’t express our love for our spouses only one day a year. It should be every day, all year! To be honest, I don’t need flowers or candy to tell me that my husband loves me. He does so much on a day to day basis that means more to me. He helps clean, he empties the garbage, he goes to the dump, he helps me when I’m sick or my back is bothering me, the list goes on and on.

For the longest time my husband was the one I loved more than anything. I couldn’t imagine a greater love than that. I would do anything for him, and he would do anything for me. We would die for each other if it truly came down to that. We bear each other’s burdens. We feel each other’s pain. When we’re apart, we miss each other terribly. Okay, maybe that part is a little exaggerated 😉 but you see where I’m going here. Most people think that the love between a husband and wife cannot be topped. It is the greatest love of all.

They. Are. Wrong.

Friends, no matter how much we think our spouse loves us, there is always going to be a greater love than that. There is one who loves us so much that he can never fail us. There is one who loves us so much that he made the ultimate sacrifice for us, without thinking twice. There is one who knows us so intimately that he knew us before we were even born. There is one who loves us so much that he corrects us, even though it pains him, just so we will grow and be safe. There is one who loves us no matter what we do, or say, or feel. He is always there for us. Always.

God.

It’s hard for me to fathom the kind of love that God has for us. His love is above and beyond anything we will ever experience here on this earth. There are so many verses that speak of God’s love, but my favorite will be the verse everyone knows.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

I challenge you to look at this verse in a new light today. Valentine’s Day is a day we celebrate love. Today I encourage you to think of the One who loves you more than you ever thought possible. I encourage you to think of the One that made the ultimate sacrifice for you. Thank the Lord for the love that we do not deserve, but freely receive. And when someone asks you about your valentine, I hope you’ll speak of the Lord’s amazing love. Tell them what blessings He has given you this year. Share the most precious love there is – the love of God.

What’s been on your heart this week friends? I hope you’ll share in the comments, and please don’t forget to visit my friends and see what they’re sharing this week!

  1. Amen! I am so thankful to God for loving me. He loved me first! He loves me completely, faults and all. I look forward to the glorious day when I can see Him face to face!
