I enjoy reading suspense novels, so when I heard Kimberly Rose Johnson was starting a new series, I jumped at the chance to read it. Johnson provides plenty of suspense, that keeps the pages turning. I’m thankful it wasn’t too long of a book (just under 200 pages) because I don’t think I could have been able to read it in one sitting otherwise. There was action right from the first chapter, and it didn’t stop! That’s how I like my suspense books – full of surprises and suspense.

I’m thrilled that this is the start of a series. I enjoyed the characters, and while perhaps I didn’t connect with any of them on a deep level, I did enjoy getting to know them and to see more of them. And quite honestly, I don’t always need to connect with characters on a deep level. Sometimes they can just be what I call “surface friends”. By this I mean I read about them, feel like we could all hang out and be friends, but wouldn’t share intimate moments with them. Do you have any book friends like that?

Overall it was a great suspense read that kept me on my toes, and left me with wanting more – as in book two! Suspense fans are going to enjoy this new series. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Direct Threat is the first book in the Protection Inc. series. The series follows a group of bodyguards who are all either former cops or military police. They are on location in Lincoln City on the Oregon coast in book one, but their business is based out of Seattle.

I’ve been to Lincoln City more times than I can remember, but I took a research trip there with my husband, specifically for this book.

While in Lincoln City my husband and I walked the same beach my characters walk. I studied the access points to the cliffside homes from the vantage point of the beach, as this was an important aspect in the story. We also visited the ice cream shop mentioned in the book. You’ll understand significance of the shop when you read the story.

My writing career has taken some twists and turns. When I first began writing in 2006 I wrote romantic suspense. Then switched over to writing contemporary romance, which turned out to be the genre of my first contracted book and many more after that. After writing several romantic mystery novels for my publisher, I decided to dust off my romantic suspense manuscripts and publish them. Direct Threat is one of those manuscripts.

I absolutely love reading and writing suspense as well as romance, so joining the two together comes naturally for me. I hope you will read and enjoy this story.

  1. I love reading suspense novels and trying to put the pieces together to figure it out. Thank you for sharing. Blessings

  2. I discovered mystery books as a child when I read Nancy Drew and the Happy Hollisters. Even though my preferences changed as I grew into adulthood, I still enjoy mystery and suspense novels when I want a story with a faster pace and action. I like the challenge of figuring out who the villain or culprit is.

  3. It sounds like a good romance. I like the suspense part. The cover looks good. Thanks for the chance.

  4. Thank you for your review on “Direct Threat” by Kimberly Rose Johnson.

Like reading suspense books and this one sure sounds like a great one.

Enjoyed reading the guest post and can’t wait for the opportunity to read this book which is now on my TBR list.

  5. I’m not huge into suspense novels but I do like the mystery part and trying to solve it.
