Happy Friday my reader friends! Have you ever had a book that you see everywhere, but are a little nervous to open it up because it’s something different then you are used to reading? This week’s book is exactly that for me. I’ve had it for awhile now, but just haven’t brought myself to open it up. It even sat on my daughter’s bookshelf for awhile because she really wanted to read it, until I snatched it back from her. What brought me to all of a sudden decide to grab it? Well, I told myself in 2016 that I was going to branch out and try more genres. I did that, sort of. Let’s just say I did it in a way that was still in my comfort zone. My goal for this year to extend beyond that. Still staying in the Christian writing world of course (with a few here and there that aren’t, but they are clean), but looking into new types of books to just expand my horizons. And so here I am, opening this book to share the first line with you.

He loves to read! On Tuesday, I bought him 6 new books. This morning he told me he had read 5 of them and only had one left. They were all history books. I love that he enjoys reading!

Venturing out of reading comfort…I’m trying to venture out a little too. And yes, mainly sticking with Christian. One I’m about to review is a suspense–haven’t read Christian suspense, but I really like the Sue Thomas F.B.Eye TV series so I’m thinking I like suspense. 😉

I received an advance review copy of UNBLEMISHED as a freebie at ACFW last August. My daughter snatched it and it’s been in her room since then. I need to reclaim it. I’ve read too many good things about it.
My first line is from TURTLES IN THE ROAD, a humorous romance from mother/daughter duo Rhonda Rhea and Kaley Rhea. The book arrived yesterday, and I didn’t get to crack it open until 1:00 AM…but I just HAD to start it before bed! The first chapter is hilarious…and Piper is my new BF! — “Normally a nice long solo drive had a calming effect on Piper.”
I love reading in the middle of the night. Just something about it….
If you want to branch out and read different genres, try books from the Victorian era…Jane Eyre, Oliver Twist, Wives and Daughters, etc. And read more classic literature…Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Edith Wharton, C.S. Lewis…just to name a few. 🙂
