First Line Friday – CFRR!!!

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 14 Comments

Hi guys! I am so excited. Today I am on my way to CFRR! WOOHOOO!!!!!! This girl is so excited to meet fellow bloggers, authors, Nicole Coley, and just have a great day of fun and worship time. If you’re going, please be sure to say hello!

One person I am super excited to meet is the wonderful, talented, and hilarious Pepper Basham! So…in honor of her, I am featuring her on today’s First Line Friday. It comes from The Thorn Healer, part three of the Penned In Time series, which I am loving by the way! Not just the books, but the covers too. Oh my goodness, they are so beautiful.

The First Line for today is…..

Wounded soldiers returned from war as heroes. Wounded nurses returned as old maids.

Okay, that was technically two lines, but you can’t have one without the other. Although I won’t get much reading in tomorrow, I’ll be thinking of all of you. Let me know what author you’d like to meet in person!

And now it’s your turn to share what you are reading! Open the book nearest to you and share the first line in the comments! And make sure to check out what my friends are reading this week! Happy Friday and happy CFRR!!!

  1. Fabulous first line! Now I want to read it – but can I start with book 3 or should I start with book 1?

Have a fabulous time at CFFR. I’d be there, but it’s a long way from New Zealand.

I’m sharing from Ghost Heart by Lisa Harris and Lynne Gentry over on my blog – it’s a medical thriller set in Africa, and has a great first line.

  2. Love this book! And hope you have a lovely time at CFRR. I’ll be thinking of you all!

I have the first line from Thomas Locke’s “Fault Lines” on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from Candace Calvert’s “Disaster Status” from her Mercy Hospital Collection. The Kindle collection with all three books in the series is on sale this month for just $2.99, so I couldn’t resist!

“Fire captain Scott McKenna bolted through the doors of Pacific Mercy ER, his boots thudding and heart pounding as the unconscious child began to stiffen and jerk in his arms.”

  3. Have a wonderful time at CFRR my friend! Make sure to give out some hugs for me too! I look forward to seeing all the lovely photos. Great choice in first line… I love all of Pepper’s books!

  4. Kay Garrett

Life is forever changed without her; without the sense of her somewhere near.
Last Christmas in Paris by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb

Have an AMAZING time at #CFRR2017! Safe travels.

    Here is my first line:

    Rebekah

In the fourth grade we made little rockets out of old film canisters, baking soda, and vinegar.
The Isaac Project by Sarah Monzon

  6. Have fun at CFRR!

By the way, I’ve been wanting to read Pepper Basham’s books for some time now.

I’m sharing about Three Wishes by Lisa T. Bergren over on my blog today, but I’m currently reading the sequel, Four Winds, so I’ll share that here. 🙂

“Javier laughed and shook his head as we reached the top of the sand dune, Centinela loping in a wide circle around us. “I do not know if I can court a girl from the future and have a pet wolf,” he said in Spanish. “That is a lot to ask of one man.”

    LOVE this book!
    Happy Friday!
My first line is from The Spinster & the Cowboy by Lena Nelson Dooley:
“When the sharp rap on his closed office door roused him, Joshua Dillinger raised his gaze from the legal document he had been studying with intense concentration.”

  8. Ah! All of you CRFF goers!!!! Sounds like fun!!!

I still need to read Pepper Basham!! 🙂

After reading about ten fiction books in the summer, I’m taking a fiction break and reading non-fiction. 🙂 I’m currently reading “Arms and Equipment in the Civil War,” which is a super fascinating read that goes in depth with all of the weapons used, tactics used, etc.

  9. Fantastic first two sentences! I just bought this book a couple days ago. Can’t wait to read it!
I’m currently reading The Promise of Breeze Hill by Pam Hillman. The first line is: “Connor O’Shea braced his boots against the auction block and glared at the crowd gathering on the landing.”
