First Line Friday – Diamond in the Rough

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 8 Comments

Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! Right now I am near the end of Jen Turano’s last book, Diamond in the Rough. To say that is a good book is such an understatement. It is literally laugh out loud funny, and has gotten me a few sideways glances from coworkers. (For the record it’s because I read during my lunch break, not while I’m supposed to be working… although wouldn’t that be fun!) Jen is just one of those authors that you know for sure you’re going to love their book. She never disappoints!

“Any smidgen of hope that her entrance into New York high society would be deemed a rousing success died in the moment Miss Poppy Garrison’s tiara became firmly attached to the sleeve of her dancing partner.”

I mean with a first line like that, you know you are in for a fun book! For more of a preview, just click on the Free Preview button above! Trust me, once you read the first few paragraphs, you’ll be hooked 🙂

If the rancid coffee was an indication of the day ahead, perhaps Joy Kelliher should have stayed in bed.

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Hold Me” by Alexa Verde:

“Aileen McKenzie might not make it.”

  3. I soo hope to read this one soon!
Today on my blog I shared the first line from Shades of Light by Sharon Garlough Brown but I’m currently reading My Dearest Dietrich by Amanda Barratt so I’ll share the first line from chapter 7 here: “Like a rent in fabric formerly whole, the wake of her vater’s absence yawned wide and gaping.” Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Finders Keepers by Sarah Monzon: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/09/12/first-line-friday-101/. It’s such a good book. Currently, I am reading book 2 in the series, All of You, so I will share a line from there.

    “England, 1944
The gangplank bounced under the weight of passengers disembarking the large transatlantic liner — a veritable Goliath to the small David-like tugboats dotting the harbor.”

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!

  5. Happy Friday! I’m sharing from Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing by Heather Day Gilbert on my blog today, so here is another line from the first page:

“I cozied up on my blue couch, setting my warm mug of Arabica coffee on the low table in front of me.”

    Have a wonderful weekend!

My first line is from The Spice King by Elizabeth Camden

    May 1900 Washington D.C.
Annabelle Larkin hadn’t meant to offend the world’s leading spice tycoon with her bold request, yet it seemed she had.

    I loved Jen’s book!

  7. I have heard great things about this book. I’ll need to check it out!

My first line comes from A Reluctant Belle by Beth White — Tree limbs slapped Joelle’s face as she ran through the woods behind the bathhouse.

Hope you have a great weekend!
