First Line Friday – Justice

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 31 Comments

Happy Friday friends! Every week I find myself wishing for this day to come faster and faster. It’s a sign the weekend is almost here, time to spend with family, almost time for church, and time to see what great books are being shared across the blogging network!

Today I am pleased to give you the first line of a book that releases TODAY! Woohoo. I am still in the midst of reading it, but let me tell you this. I love it so far. The hero in this story……um yeah. He is amazing. He is the type of man I want my daughter to date and marry. In fact, I’m going to share this book with her so she can see what I’m talking about and because it’s good!).

My first line today comes from the book Justice by Emily Conrad.

“Snow floated onto Main Street, each flake large enough to catch the breeze like a parachute.”

And, just because I’m nice, I’m going to share a special line with you. It’s the line that just kind of melted my heart. Our hero, Jake, is speaking here.

“I don’t know what you consider simple things, but for the right woman, if I could hold her hand, I could save our first kiss for our wedding day.”

Um….yeah. Like I said, the kind of guy I want my daughter to date!

And now it’s your turn to share your first line! Grab the book nearest to you and share the first line in the comments. Don’t forget  to check out what everyone else is reading at Hoarding Books!

My FLF comes from a book I will be starting later this weekend, Love’s Journey in SugarCreek by Sienna Miller.

The leather on Rachel Troyer’s gun holster creaked as she shifted her weight on the kitchen chair. Her three elderly Amish aunts shot wary glances toward the offending weapon.

Have a great weekend and Happy Reading!??

Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line of a wonderful new book about the Maccabees, Judah’s Wife, but here I’ll share the first line of the nonfiction book I’m reading now, Our Unmet Needs by Charles Stanley: “Do you have a nagging, gnawing feeling that something isn’t quite right in your life? Do you feel overwhelmed by a need you can’t meet, a problem you can’t solve, or a question you can’t answer? Are you able to identify the real need that underlies your feelings of uneasiness, fear, worry, or restlessness?”

Happy Friday! I always love seeing what everyone is reading when I get to stop by! My first line is from A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green:

“Propping open the door to her shop, Vivienne Rivard listened to a distant rumble that vibrated the windows and shivered in her chest.”

My favorite book of the year right there! It was so good, I had a book hangover for days. And I still think about it today!

  8. Happy Friday! On my blog, I’m featuring The Healer by Beverly Joy Roberts. It’s an amazing fiction that moved me deeply. I hope you will take the time to check it out. Here, I will share the first line from a book by C.H. Spurgeon that I’m currently reading. “‘Thou has visited me in the night.’ –Psalm 18:3. ‘Tis a theme for wonder that the glorious God should visit sinful man.” Wishing you a blessed weekend.

  9. Happy Friday!

Over on my blog today, I am sharing the first line from Kristi Ann Hunter’s new novella, A Search for Refuge. I’m just on chapter two, so I will share the first line from that chapter here:

“Nash slid the tin of peppermints into his coat pocket and reached beneath the counter to pull out Mrs. Lancaster’s log book.”

  10. Happy Friday!
I am featuring Olivia Twist on my blog so here I’ll share the first line from The Man He Never Was by James Rubart. Toren Daniels rolled over in bed and light pierced his closed eyelids, which meant five a.m. had come and gone.

My first line is from A Most Noble Heir by Susan Anne Mason:

Nolan Price scanned the fields of newly budding greenery that stretched as far as he could see and slowly inhaled the scent of grass, soil, and freshly spread manure.

That reminds me of stepping outside my house in the summertime. Lots of farms nearby!

  12. I’m looking forward to reading that one soon!

My current first line is from Robin E. Mason’s The Silent Song of Winter: “The sounds of the swamp in winter would scare another person but not me. I grew up here.”

  13. I am sharing this one on my blog today too! 🙂 I haven’t started it yet, but your thoughts have me looking forward to it.

I am currently reading Flood Waters by Christy Barritt, so I am going to share the first line of Chapter 22. Today’s Goal: Do whatever necessary to find Skye and nothing else.

  14. I’ve seen this book around – I’ll have to check it out.

I’m featuring The Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel on my blog today (brilliant novel!), and I’m currently reading Grace Restored by Toni Shiloh. Here’s the first line of Chapter One:

Victory was hers. The judge had sentenced Brett Donn to twenty years in prison for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
