His Encouragement – Kid Approved

Hello friends! Welcome to His Encouragement, a weekly dose of biblical encouragement to help get you through your week! Make sure you check out what my friends have to say too. Let’s all encourage each other!

I recently received a small skit book to use on Wednesday nights with my Captain’s Club group. There are only two kids that come on a regular basis, but that does not mean we should call it quits! These guys are important too, and need encouragement throughout the week just like I do! This skit book is perfect because it’s purposefully for only two children. We’ve done two of them now and it’s been a hoot.

Last night we did the story of Joseph being faithful to God and not being tempted by Potiphar’s wife. In case you need a laugh, in this adorable skit she was called Mrs. Potty! It just happened to coincide with my bible reading for yesterday. Okay, scratch that. God obviously set that up perfectly!

So we get to the part where Joseph tells her no, and I’m refencing the bible afterwards to show what the bible says about the story, and I couldn’t stop thinking about this verse.

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

Genesis 39:9

It’s the last part that jumped out to me – Joseph is asking Potiphar’s wife how he can sin against God. It was his immediate reaction from what the bible shows us. I’m sure she was beautiful, I’m sure for many men it would have been a temptation they would not have denied. But Joseph chose to be faithful to God. Later on, God rewarded him for this.

Friends I am telling you that I deal with temptation daily. But Joseph’s story is such an inspiration and encouragement, and when I’m dealing with temptations I want this story to be in the forefront of my mind. Let us all ask the question whether we should sin against God. Maybe even say it outloud. It might just help us resist that temptation and be a witness to others!

What’s been on your heart this week friends? I hope you’ll share in the comments, and please don’t forget to visit my friends and see what they’re sharing this week!

  1. Thank you for this encouragement this week. It’s a great perspective question! Am I in line with God, or sinning against Him? Thank you for this!
