His Encouragement – Love Edition

Although Valentine’s Day was yesterday, I’m still thinking about something I taught my youth group last night at church. God wants us to love Him with every ounce of our beings. It’s easy to say that about your spouse. I know I love my husband more than anything and can say so with ease. But do I love him more than God? I’ll admit, it’s a struggle I have, and not intentionally. I think as humans, we are programmed to love our spouses and our children more than anything in the world. I would do anything for them, would risk my life to protect them, and will do everything I can to make them happy.

But would I do the same for God?

Yes I would, in theory. And I don’t think I’m not alone in this. Confession – I sometimes have a hard time understanding/grasping/knowing/living that I should love God more than my husband and my daughter. But, Jesus commands us to love the Lord will all that we’ve got. He should be number one to us, way deep down in our hearts.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

Matthew 22:37

God loves us in such a mighty and powerful way. He loves us more than our spouses love us, our parents love us, or our children love us. We should love Him just the same. Let’s pray for each other, and in our prayers ask the Lord to remind us that we are to love Him first.

What verse has been on your mind this week? I hope you’ll share it. Be sure to stop by these blogs to see what verse has inspired them this week too!

  1. Thank you, Jessica for sharing! God’s love for us is amazing, and in our sinful minds we can only grasp the edges of the fullness of His love!

What a great post, Jessica! I have the same struggle sometimes. God’s love for us beyond all measure, beyond our understanding even, but am I able to love God in the same way? Thank you so much for sharing and for the reminder!

  3. I absolutely LOVE your post today. I, too, ponder this one regularly. I hope that I am doing it right, but I am positive there have been days I put everything before God. One of the best gifts God gives us is a new day so we can try to be better at this! We are all works in progress.
