His Encouragement – Promises of the Bible 2

Hello friends! Welcome to another week of His Encouragement, a weekly dose of biblical encouragement to help get you through your week! I’m so honored to be able to share a verse with you each week, in hopes that it will help you, uplift you, and encourage you. 🙂

Welcome to week two of my new series – Promises of the Bible. Each week I’m going to feature one of God’s promises from the bible, share it with you, but also take time to memorize it through the week. My hope is that I am able to memorize verses (which honestly is hard for me) that will bring me comfort when I need it most down the road.

Today I am sharing my absolute favorite promise. I will admit, I’ve had a portion of this verse in my heart for a long time. I always try to think on it during times of distress. But there is also a powerful statement in the first part of the verse that I know I need to dwell on as well.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews 13:5

Have you ever noticed that sometimes people let you down? It’s not always intentional, but it does happen. I’ve had a lot of broken promises during my life, and have felt the discouragement from not being able to count on someone when I needed them most. It’s not a good feeling – basically you learn that the only person you can count on is yourself. That’s how I looked at life….. until I got to know the Lord.

You see this verse in Hebrews promises that God will NEVER leave us. He will NEVER forsake us. And when God says something, He doesn’t go back on it. It doesn’t matter what we are going through, God is right there with us. It doesn’t matter that we are broken, needy, or poor, God is right there with us. It doesn’t matter that our neighbors have more things, or we don’t get the promotions we feel we deserve. God is right there with us. We don’t need all the stuff. We need God, and He’s right there by our side.

There’s a lot going on in our world right now. My days are filled with so much emotion, frustration, even anxiety. But God is right here with me. He will not leave my side. He will not allow me to bear this burden alone. I can have peace and comfort from remembering this verse in Hebrews. I pray that you can too!

I’ve got this verse written on a note that I’ve put on my desk at work, right next to my verse from last week. I hope you’ll join me each week as I concentrate on another promise from the bible. Let us grow in our faith together, and hopefully memorize some scripture!

What’s been on your heart this week friends? I hope you’ll share in the comments, and please don’t forget to visit my friends and see what they’re sharing this week!

  1. I learned very early on in my marriage that I needed to be content with what I have and where God put me. I had a hard time understanding that my dream of marriage and the reality of marriage were two different things. I always wanted to bend my husband to my will. It never worked but I kept trying. Then we had a baby and all that flew out the window. It took time, a lot of time, but now I understand and appreciate contentment. Most of that understanding came from getting to know God better and being more into His Word.

  2. I feel this right now. I have a whole heap of discontentment right now but it’s something I’m trying to fight. It’s a struggle though. I’d rather run than confront issues but nothing gets resolved that way either
