When the abandoned princess discovers a friend, some muscle, and a passion for swords, she also acquires the crucible by which she uncovers the mysterious key to unlock her grief and win true freedom. Or will her strength confound her future in the kingdom to which she rides?
At the mythical edge of the Berkshire Forests, Wren finds herself rattling around in an austere castle, abandoned by the King and Queen. King Belodawn seems to blame his daughter for the mysterious disappearance of his wife, and he avoids his daughter at all costs in favor of conquests requiring his person away from the kingdom. But, things are about to change; the princess has matured. Wren’s spirit refuses to remain the lost bird she became at age twelve. With the aid of the cook and the cook’s son, Wren discovers her unknown dexterity in sword fighting. With it, she believes a new community in which to live will open up but is this young girl prepared to encounter deceptive ghosts, angels, and demons in the maze of the forest to attain her aim?

Welcome to the blog Charmayne! Let’s get right to the questions. If you could have dinner with any character, who would you pick? What would you eat? What would you talk about?
I would have dinner with Mrs. Pendelin, the castle cook, and I would ask her to make me some of her roasted chicken as well as fresh baked bread. She’s an excellent cook. I would talk to her about Wren’s mother; specifically, what was she like before she disappeared. Wren is so conflicted about her mother and I would like to explore this.
That sounds delicious! And I love that you picked a deep topic. It’s nice to have an in-depth conversation while eating good food! If you weren’t an author right now, what would you be doing?
I would work in some capacity as a marriage and family counselor. I have my Masters in counseling and have always been intrigued by they way our minds work either for our good or detriment.
That sounds interesting! What’s your favorite bible verse?
2 Timothy 1:7-8 “For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, a self discipline.”
Amen! What’s one thing readers don’t know about you?
When I was 17, I wrote an article about my mother’s struggle with obesity. It was published in Guidepost magazine and I won an electric typewriter. Now if that doesn’t date me, I don’t know what will.
Ha! I used to write school papers on typewriters, so don’t feel bad 😉 What are you working on next?
I started a novel for adults called “Altered” that explores the relationship between two sisters and what might happen if one does not recognize the other. Can they establish a new relationship that is not based on dysfunctional, family dynamics.
I’m intrigued! Thank you so much for chatting with me today!
