About the Book
She thought he was her knight in shining armor, but will a marriage of convenience prove her wrong?
After Vivian’s fiancé dies in the Great War, she thinks her life is over. But Henry, her fiancé’s best friend, comes to the rescue offering a marriage of convenience. He claims he promised his friend he would take care of her. She grows to love him, but she knows it will never work because he never shows any love for her.
Henry adores Vivian and has pledged to take care of her, but he won’t risk their friendship by letting her know. She’s still in love with the man who died in the Great War. He won’t risk heartache by revealing his true emotions.
Stories about marriage of convenience’s always intrigue me. I wonder how the characters are going to grow together, if they will end up falling in love (which if course always happens in romance novels, but it’s still fun to wonder), and how they will make their marriage work. This story is a tad different in that Vivian and Henry do have a past together, not by dating but by being friends. When I read that Vivian lost her true love in war, my heart broke for her. Then to read about her marrying her deceased love’s best friend, I almost felt pity. However, Henry was truly her saving grace. He saved her from a life of bondage essentially (you can read between the lines in the first part of the book), and who does that remind you of? I love stories that you can dig a little deeper and find a wonderful spiritual theme in.
Aside from that, reading how these two learn to live their lives together was fun. Tamera Lynn Kraft does a great job of easing the characters into a relationship. At no time while I was reading did their relationship feel forced (well with the exception of the very beginning), but rather they took their time coming together and reacquainting themselves with each other. It was a sweet story that historic romance readers will enjoy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
