Squeee!!! Fangirling over here ? Last but certainly not least, I have Betsy St. Amant talking about her story, The Reluctant Princess. I’m so sorry to see the end of these posts, but I do highly encourage you read this collection. It’s so good!

Royally Yours: Royalty Meets Small-Town Charm in Four Heartwarming Christmas Romances by [Johnson, Liz, Tagg, Melissa, Clark, Ashley, St. Amant, Betsy]

Tinsel, Vermont is known for its no-paparazzi policy and Christmas decorations that are fit for a queen. This holiday season, join four royals on a stroll through town square as they each find their Christmas wishes for a happily-ever-after…tiaras optional.

The Reluctant Princess by Betsy St. Amant

Princess Eleanor is weary of the protocol that comes with the crown, along with her lack of voice on causes she holds dear. She takes a holiday in the safety of Tinsel, Vermont, to determine her next steps–and certainly didn’t mean to fall for the average Joe assigned as her chauffeur. But Miles Channing isn’t so average, after all. He’s Liam Neal, part of the notoriously famous American Neal Family, and is hiding with secrets of his own. When Christmas comes and the truth shakes her life like a snow globe, Eleanor must decide once and for all where she’ll be standing when the snowflakes settle.

The inspiration behind The Reluctant Princess was to tackle the tension we all experience, at one time or another, of feeling obligated beyond our capabilities. Be it emotional capabilities, physical, spiritual, mental, etc.—we can all relate, royal or not! We’ve all been in a situation before that called for more than we felt capable of giving. Perhaps it was unexpected lines on a pregnancy test. Maybe it was a promotion at work we weren’t sure we could handle. Maybe it was a deadline as an author or a request to volunteer at church. Or maybe it was the inexhaustible demands of working full-time, running a home and raising a family.

Stories aren’t just about the characters—they’re about the readers! I wanted to create a story that would resonate and have the reader whispering “me too”, bridging the gap of “commoner” and royal in a way that women everywhere can relate. I loved the thought of a Princess who didn’t want to be a Princess anymore, and the “what-if’s” took over from there. Why was she dismissing the crown? What would make someone want to reject a lavish lifestyle of privilege? What wounds did she have contributing to her damaged self-esteem? What did she need to do to heal?

I got to explore all of that with Princess Eleanor, and better yet—place it in a cozy Christmas setting that simply demands hot chocolate! I hope readers will come away from The Reluctant Princess with a fresh perspective on the hard situation in their life, a newfound anticipation for the coming Christmas holiday—and maybe a marshmallow mustache or two. ?
