My Perspective
So far I have enjoyed every installment of The Bishop’s Family, and this one was no exception. I was so glad to get back to Stoney Ridge and see what everyone was up to. I think the thing I liked most about this book was that it gave you several mini plots in a way that I could follow and was not confusing, which meant I got to see what was happening with more characters!! And I will say that although this book is the third in this series, you really could read it as a stand alone. But why would you want to miss out on the fun?
There were so many components of this story that I loved. Hope, love, alcoholism, change, consequences, fun, laughter, prayer, forgiveness, staying focused in God’s Word, and so many more I can’t even think of right now! Having so many dimensions is what held my interest. I don’t like reading boring stories where the emotions never change and the people never change. I like growth, mixing up the storylines and seeing the characters through their ups and downs.
My favorite character had to be David. He really does see people for their potentials, not their flaws and I admire that. His character brought depth to the story, and brought such wisdom that made other characters (and myself!) stop and rethink their thoughts and situations. Not only was David devoted to God and his family, he was devoted to their town and the people. He w aged what was best for it and I enjoyed seeing little bits of that come out in the book.
Again, this book could certainly make do as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the others first! I received a copy of this book through CelebrateLit. I was not required to give a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
