About the Book

Evie Blackwell’s reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor’s new Missing Persons Task Force. This elite investigative team is launched with plenty of public fanfare. The governor has made this initiative a high priority, so they will have to produce results–and quickly.

Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn’t be more different. While Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood to find a missing college student, David searches for a private investigator working for a high-powered client.

With a deep conviction that “justice for all” truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But Evie must also find answers to the questions that lie just beneath the surface in her personal life.

My Perspective

Although I did not enjoy this book as much as I did the first in the series, I still found it to be a good read. I like to have some suspense in my mystery reads, and I thought that was lacking a little bit. I also would have liked to see Evie’s romance develop a little more, or at least her thoughts towards it in particular.

Aside from that I found myself intrigued by all the facts, Evie’s thought process as she tried to piece the cold case together, and the interesting tie her case had to her partner David. The author does a fantastic job in making you feel as if you are a part of the case. You are seeing the facts, writing on the board, and trying to solve the puzzle. And just as in real cold cases, the facts don’t come as quickly as we’d like, but you learn along the way. I’m glad she kept the speed of the story more realistic then just Evie going out, all of a sudden finding all this stuff and within days the case is solved.

I am still looking forward to the next book in this series. I am hoping Evie picks an exciting cold case to solve and we can see some movement in her love life! I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
