Hello my reader friends. Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today’s topic is – Bookish Discoveries I Made In 2019. I had to really think about this one. I mean, there are so many discoveries I made – every book I read was a discovery! 😉 But seriously, I did make some pretty cool discoveries that I am ready to share with you. I hope you’ll share your discoveries in the comments!
PS – These are in no particular order!
StoryNerds! Okay, I am not really a podcast kind of person. I just don’t have the time to sit and listen, ya know? But StoryNerds!? I can’t remember exactly when I stumbled across them last year, but I absolutely love them! I downloaded PodBean on my phone and listen to them when I can. And…have you heard their recent announcement!? My book blogging buddy, MeezCarrie has announced that StoryNerds is the official podcast of Reading is My Super Power! WOOHOO!!!!
Okay, so technically this isn’t “bookish” per say, BUT I do use them in the bookish community. I personally use Buffer. I just started using it a few months ago and have kind of used it sporadically. I love that I can post to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all at once, and even schedule them all at the same time. If I wanted to pay money I could add Pinterest, but I like the free stuff 😉
Now Hootesuite I use for an author I VA for, as well as SoCalCWC (SoCal Christian Writers’ Conference) posts that I am in charge of. I have to say, I am quickly becoming a fan. I am learning so many cool things you can do with it, not just scheduling social media posts, but following them, sharing them, and so much more. I am so close to closing my Buffer account and switching gears. But I haven’t quite made the jump yet.
So, if you have a blog, or just want an easier way to share social media posts from one location instead of three, I highly recommend you check them out!
Okay, so I didn’t discover biblical fiction in 2019, I had read it before that. But honestly, last year it just kind of became a thing for me – something I wanted to read more of. My goal is to read even more this year. It’s so thought provoking and fun to read. My favorite biblical fiction of the year was by Mesu Andrews…..perhaps you’ve heard of it?
The last item leads to this item – Biblical Fiction Buffs group on Goodreads, hosted by the lovely Jenna VanMourik! There’s a different book to read each quarter and lots to talk about. I highly encourage you to check it out if you haven’t already!
It’s okay if you don’t read every day
I know what you’re thinking. I must be crazy, right!? Let me tell you this – 2019 was full of lots of ups and downs. I had a huge health scare, then surgery, then some personal issues, and a death in the family that I am still not totally able to recover from. During those times of stress, I wasn’t able to read every day. And part of me felt guilty, like I wasn’t doing my job. The other part of me felt sad. Reading is something I love to do, and it helps me escape reality. But if I don’t read every day? Well, I won’t die. In fact, I took an almost three week hiatus from reading near the end of the year, and I cannot tell you how much more I appreciated reading once I jumped back in. Sometimes absence really does make the heart grow fonder.
But let’s face it. There won’t be too many days in 2020 I will skip reading. Just maybe a couple 🙂
I am always finding new authors, and so happy to do that! So to end today’s post, here are some books by new authors I came across in 2019, and am so glad that I did!
