A Day in the Life of Ava Davis

Happy Wednesday friends! Today we’re going to celebrate Christmas in July with our Day in the Life guest! It’s got me thinking about Christmas songs, lights and decorations, cookies…..oh boy. Someone better warn my husband. I may be singing out loud shortly! Thank you to Alexa for sharing one of her characters with us!!

I’m so glad to be back! I’m blessed and honored to be here. Today, I’m happy to feature one day in the life of Ava Davis, the heroine of GABRIEL’S SECRET by yours truly, Alexa Verde (pre-order special $0.99).

Gabriel's Secret (THE 12 MYSTERIES OF CHRISTMAS) by [Verde, Alexa]

Unlike her relatives, who either joined the lucrative jewelry business or became thieves, rookie cop Ava Davis chose public service. Sent undercover on her first assignment to catch a notorious thief expected at the hotel in Christmas Tyme, Colorado, Ava intends to prove the police didn’t make a mistake by hiring her. With her family history looming over her, she doesn’t have time to reconnect with her childhood friend and first crush, Gabriel Lark.
After being wrongfully accused, former cop Gabriel wants nothing to do with the police and longs for restful holidays. But when a series of thefts at the hotel threaten his new livelihood, he needs Ava’s help to find the thief. Once deceived, can he trust her?

Then an extravagant hotel guest is murdered, her jewels missing, and Ava is attacked… Can Ava and Gabriel solve their issues-and the mystery-before Christmas? And all before something from Gabriel’s past can destroy his and Ava’s future…

A Day in the Life of Ava Davis

My work day starts with vacuuming, dusting, and scrubbing showers. Argh. If you could see my messy apartment, you’d know that cleaning is so not my thing. But as a maid at the Christmas Tyme Hotel (don’t ask) I learn to change bed sheets and dust furniture quickly and efficiently while watching out for any suspicious activity. Huh. I didn’t expect my new life to be like this. Oh no! When I returned to my hometown after traveling the world for the family business and started working for— Well, never mind.

After a few hours, my day gets more exciting. I discover that one of our most demanding guests (really, why would anyone request a bath full of champagne?) is lying about some important things. Then my childhood friend and first crush, Gabriel Lark, reappears in my life and starts by dragging me to the police station. And all that before lunch!

He thinks he has a good reason for it, but his distrust hurts. Especially considering I missed him so much all the years away from him… I tuck my pain away and keep my chin up. I remind myself that Christmas is about God sending His Son to save humankind from sin. It’s about God’s grace and mercy.

Then there’s a theft at the hotel! I loved sleuthing since I was a kid. I think it’s up to me and Gabriel, who is a security officer at the hotel now, to find the culprit and prevent future thefts. It doesn’t matter that my heart beats faster in Gabriel’s presence. After my recent romantic fiasco, I’m not in the market for a relationship, and besides, I never stay in one place for long. Though… Well, no.

One of the highlights of my day is getting home to Lizzie. Lizzie is my pet iguana. Maybe not the best choice for Colorado winters, but I love her. Yes, I talk to her, and though she can’t reply, I think she understands everything. It’s awesome to finally have a pet!

And I have a feeling that something amazing is going to happen this Christmas…

I used to celebrate Christmas in a big way. Homemade gifts for everyone along with special purchased presents. Hand made stockings, Holiday decor everywhere! Then, over a period of 10 years, I had some seriously bad things happen during the holiday season that took all of the joy from me. I went through the motions for the kids, but my heart wasn’t in it. I slowly warmed back to the spirit. Some seriously good things began happening in my life, especially during the holiday season. While I am no where near the over-the-top holiday gal that I was, I do enjoy Christmas again. I still can’t stand the movies I used to love, but I love the Christmas carols! I guess that my answer is the old 1960’s The Little Drummer Boy.

I’m so sorry about bad things happening to you during holidays, Janet Graham. That must have been very difficult for you. But I’m glad you’re enjoying Christmas again. I really hope things will keep improving for you. Thank you so much for sharing!

I do really love Christmas time. First and foremost It’s a celebration of Christ’s birthday. Without Christ, there would be no hope. Thank you Jesus!
I also love all the festivities, trees, lights, dickens carols, music, wassail, snow. It’s such a beautiful time of year.
There’s so many books set in Christmas time, it’s hard to choose. My song would have to be “Mary Did You Know” and movie would be “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story and then “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Since there both books also, I think they qualify. For anyone who doesn’t know, “The Homecoming” is a true story.

Kathy, I couldn’t agree more! First and foremost, Christmas is Christ’s birthday! Thank You, Lord!
And Mary, Did You Know is one of my favorite songs ever. Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and wonderful comment.

My absolute favorite Christmas movie is Mrs. Santa Claus. I watch it any time of the year and can watch it more than once in a day. It makes my heart so happy. May have to put it on today?.

Love the cover Alexa! Thanks for the chance to win this book.
