A Deadly First Line Friday!

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 17 Comments

Happy Friday everyone! The calendar says it’s now fall, but our weather certainly doesn’t. It’s been warmer here than it has all summer! But that’s okay, we’ll take it while we can. Pretty soon the weather will be cold and gloomy – which means more time for reading! Maybe this winter thing isn’t so bad after all. šŸ˜‰

So today I am sharing the first line from the latest book by the talented Rachel Dylan. If you’ve not read her books, you need to. Now. I love them! And guess what? If you come back Tuesday, the Celebrate Lit Blog Tour starts for this book, and you can enter a giveaway! Plus see my review, but I know you’re more interested in the giveaway. Ha!

Here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The first line from Deadly Proof!

One last thing before you go. As you’ve probably noticed, FirstLineFriday has grown tremendously over the past few months. Well, in order to better accommodate all the posts, make it easier for you to check out what everyone is reading, and allow for others to sign up easier, starting in October you’re going to see the posts in a different way. There will be a website you can visit to find all your favorite firstlinefriday posts, and even submit one of your own! Here’s a little preview. I’ll hope you’ll consider joining!

  1. Excellent choice! I’m a legal thriller fan, but I’ve read a couple recently that were disappointing. Deadly Proof was the opposite – it had everything I love about legal thriller!

I’m sharing from Hold the Light by April McGowan over on my blog today, and Iā€™ve just started reading what Iā€™m told is an excellent writing craft book, Understanding Show, Donā€™t Tell by Janice Hardy. It starts well:

Show, donā€™t tell is one of the most frustrating pieces of writing advice out there.

Iā€™m looking forward to understanding it better.

  2. I’ve just started reading this one! In fact, I was going to share the first line here. I guess I don’t need to now. But you can still hop on over to my blog and get the first line to J. Rodes’ “Charging the Darkness”–a great conclusion to her dystopian trilogy.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. “The Black Tower of Dunnoch,” is the first line from “The Master of Blacktower,” by Barbara Michaels. It was published in 1966. I discovered it in a stack of used books at a gift shop I was visiting. It’s good. Happy Reading! šŸ™‚

  4. I’m sharing from a new Barbour collection today.
How dare the stars still light the night and the James River continue to flow, when the one who made Lettieā€™s life bearable was gone?
This is the first line from chapter 1 (not the prologue) of Carrie Fancett Pagels novella ā€œLoveā€™s Escapeā€ in The Captive Brides Collection.

    Sounds like a page-turner!

Mrs. Pollifax had attended church that Sunday morning, and her hat-a garden of pale pink roses and green leaves-still sat on her head as she ate lunch in the sunny kitchen of her apartment. – The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax (Book 2) by Dorothy Gilman

  8. Okay now I have to add this book to my TBR. This is the second time in just 5 minutes someone has recommended this book. I can take hints šŸ™‚

  9. I’m sharing the first line from Becky Wade’s True to You. “Finding oneself at the mercy of a crazed gunman isn’t all fun and games.” I thought it was such a great book!
