Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m pleased to share my thoughts on Karen Witemeyer’s latest release – it’s a good one 🙂

ABOUT THE BOOK

At Love's Command (Hanger's Horsemen Book #1) by [Karen Witemeyer]

Haunted by the horrors of war, ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries known as Hanger’s Horsemen who have become legends in 1890s Texas. They defend the innocent and obtain justice for the oppressed. But when a rustler’s bullet leaves one of them at death’s door, they’re the ones in need of saving.

Dr. Josephine Burkett is used to men taking one look at her skirts and discounting her medical skills. What she’s not used to is having a man change his mind in a heartbeat and offer to assist her in surgery. Matthew Hanger’s dedication to his friend during recovery earns Josephine’s respect, and when she hears of her brother’s abduction, he becomes her only hope for rescue.

Matt has stared down ruthless outlaws, betrayal, and injury, but when a bossy lady doctor crawls under his skin, his heart is tempted to surrender. And when she is caught in the crossfire, he may have to sacrifice everything–even his team–to save her.

MY PERSPECTIVE

I love reading historical fiction novels where the heroine is in a male dominant profession. It’s interesting to see how they handle being in that position, as well as seeing how other characters respond to them being in that position. Dr. Josephine is one of my favorites! She doesn’t take grief from men who may look down their noses at her, she gets the job done, and has compassion for the patients that she is working with. She’s strong yet feminine. And she made me want to dive into the story and become friends!

Witemeyer is a fantastic author – no doubt about that. Her characters are always charming, she always sneaks in these little surprises in her stories, and she always leaves me wanting more. Matthew Hanger is such a wonderful character. Perhaps the first thing I noticed about him was the way he was around Dr. Josephine. He immediately showed respect her not only her profession, but her as a woman. I knew immediately I was going to enjoy getting to know him. Enjoy I did! Ladies – get your fans ready.

At Love’s Command is a wonderful good vs. evil story, and one that I can see myself rereading down the road. Highly recommend checking out this book. Personally, I cannot wait for the next installment! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. all thoughts and opinions are my own.
