The opening to the book had my attention at full capacity and I longed to learn the truth behind what happened. We see a boy and his mama being hurt by a bad man, but we don’t know why. The. Fast forward a bit and we enter Chapter One, which finds the boy slightly older and mute. He has not uttered one word since his mothers tragic death. The town blames his father, Mr Colton. I thought from the beginning it wasn’t really him, however the townspeople decided to believe rumors rather than what was in their hearts.

Enter Ms. Porter to the story. She had answered an ad for a nanny for Jimmy Colton. Eager to leave her current living conditions, she was barely in town for ten minutes before hearing what everyone thought of Mr. Colton. I’m so glad that she decided to go to his home anyways and be a caretaker to poor Jimmy.

I enjoyed reading about the change in Mr. Colton’s heart throughout the story. It seemed that Ms. Porter had a way of peeling the walls around his heart, layer by layer. I admired her spunk, tenacity, and determination when it came to caring for Jimmy and Mr. Colton.

A little later in the book you meet sweet Harry. He kind of reminded me of Lenny from Of Mice and Men. Such a large man, but with a tender heart. He quickly befriended Jimmy, and the two of the, developed a beautiful relationship. I felt so bad that he was stuck with his evil brother throughout the book. He did not deserve to be beaten and called stupid.

I recommended this book to those who want to read about family, forgiveness, and spiritual growth, along with a little history. I received a free copy of this book through the publisher in exchange for an honest review which I have given.
