First Line Friday – Home All Along

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 21 Comments

Hi everyone and Happy Friday! It’s been a long and tiring week, especially at work. I am ready for the weekend, that’s for sure. So what does one do when she is tired and worn out? Read a book by one of her favorites! So this week I’m celebrating Beth Wiseman. Beth’s newest book, Home All Along just released this week, so you are getting this first line hot off the press. I have not yet read a book by Beth that I didn’t like, so I know that reading this is going to put a smile on my face. Do you have an author that makes you smile even when you’re super stressed? To be honest, I have several. I think I chose the Amish route this week because I needed to live vicariously through the character in the simple life! Well, simpler than mine I like to think!

Okay, the first line for this week is…….

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

I know, it’s short. But sometimes short can be good or intriguing!

And now it’s your turn to share what you are reading! Open the book nearest to you and share the first line in the comments! And make sure to check out what my friends are reading this week! Happy Friday!!!

  1. I have several go-to authors too. And I’m featuring one of them on my blog this week with the first line from Melissa Tagg’s “All This Time”. I can’t believe the Walker Family series is finished! ? But here, I’m going to share the first line from Chapter 1 of Toni Shiloh’s new release, Returning Home:

Jo Ellen Baker slammed the tailgate of her pickup shut.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. What a wonderful idea for Friday! The first line of this nonfiction book I am reading is: “At dawn across the Islamic World, sonorous voices usher the sun over the horizon.” This the start of Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi! I can’t wait to learn more about the Muslim people through this, which will hopefully expand my understanding of them!

  3. “It was the first day of October, and all things considered, Mitford was pretty quiet.”

This first line is from “To Be Where You Are,” by Jan Karon.

    I love this series!!! 🙂

  4. Sounds like you are going to have a nice relaxing weekend! I too, have several authors who’s books I buy without hesitation, because I enjoy their writing style. I don’t have an extra first line to share in the comments, only the first line on my blog this week. 🙂

  5. I can relate to being worn out after an especially hard week at work. I hope you get some good reading time in this weekend to recover! I’m sharing the first line from Rachel Hauck’s Once Upon a Prince today. “What did he say? The storm gusts moving over the Atlantic must have garbled his words. ‘I can’t marry you.'”

I love seeing what everyone’s reading!
Happy Friday! My first line is from Magnolia Storms by Janet Ferguson:
“Fear and loss snaked around Magnolia Marovich’s heart like they always did when she studied the satellite images on the three computer screens in front of her. Not again.

  7. I love having those automatic go-to authors that I would buy a book from with no hesitation. 🙂

I’m featuring “All This Time” by Melissa Tagg on the blog today, but for here, I’ll share my first line from Hometown Girl by Courtney Walsh. It’s one of the three books I’m currently reading and I’m loving it so far.

    “Beth Whitaker hated flowers.”

    Happy Weekend!

A small group of friends had assembled in Mrs. Pollifax’s living room on this warm July evening. The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman

    Happy Friday and reading!

My first line is : from an Inconvenient Beauty by Kristi Ann Hunter.
The line between boy and man was never murkier than when a father died too soo. Leaving his son to walk through the foibles of youth while shouldering the responsibilities of adulthood.
