First Line Friday, snow edition!

Posted by abakersp in First Line Friday / 18 Comments

I don’t know what your week as been like, but mine has been filled with snow, snow and more snow. Did I mention I’ve seen a lot of snow? Over three feet to be exact. It took my husband and I a full day and part of another day to become unburied. Not exactly what I call fun. And I was a pretty hurting puppy afterwards. So I’ve decided that I don’t care if it snows for the next two years. I’ve seen enough!

That being said, you know what’s great about being laid up because you are hurt from all the shoveling, and snowblowing, and shoveling? You get to read!! I think that’s why we got as much snow as we did. So I could take the time to read. Over the past year I have really grown to love historical fiction. I think it’s because I ignored history when I was in school (boring teachers equals no interest on my part). So now I am kind of in love with reading it. Maybe I should thank them??

This week my first line comes from an Amish author that I love. I know what you’re thinking. Did she just say she likes historical reads and now she’s talking about an Amish author? Yep. I did. For those of you who don’t know Shelley Shepard Gray started a historical series called A Lone Star Hero Series. I read the first book, The Loyal Heart, last year and loved it. I was so excited when I saw the second book was coming out!! So, this week’s first line is from the latest in this series, An Uncommon Protector. It’s a good one!!

And now it’s time……. (enter drumroll)

This weeks first line from

It was hot. This is from the prologue.

And…..

Everyone said they were dangerous. From Chapter One.

There, I have provided you two first lines. They may be small, but the impact this story is having on me is big! I hope you’ll join my in reading. Click here to get your copy and start reading!

Now it’s your turn! Go grab your current read, turn to page one, and share your first line in the comments below. And don’t forget to visit these fantastic bloggers to see what they are reading:

  1. “It was 2 p.m. on the afternoon of May 7, 1915. The Lusitania had been struck by two torpedoes in succession and was sinking rapidly, while the boats were being launched with all possible speed.” The Secret Adversary, by Agatha Christie.

I am currently reading The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney.
First line says “Because the three Plumbs had agreed ton the phone the previous evening that they should not drink in front of their brother Leo, they were all- unbeknownst to one another- sitting in separate bars in and around Grand Central, savoring a furtive cocktail before lunch.”

I loved the irony in that statement and it hooked me in!

I tried a new author whom Elaine Cooper recommended because she needs reviews, and I am really enjoying it! My first line is: “Young lady, my marital status is none of your concern.” from Secrets & Charades by Cindy Ervin Huff

I just got this book recently and it is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to get to it. 🙂

  6. Snow…I wish we had snow where I live. But I know it can get old and be difficult to travel in. Stay safe! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  8. It never snows here 🙁 Send some my way!

I’ve been hearing lots of good things about this book. I think I’ll have to check it out. Meanwhile, I’m featuring Terri Blackstock’s “If I’m Found” on my blog today. 🙂
