Happy Thursday friends! Welcome to another edition of His Encouragement, a weekly meme where some blogging friends and I try to provide you a little encouragement to help make it through your week.
This week I have heard the same topic come up multiple times, which usually means the Lord is trying to tell me something. Have you ever had that happen? It could be in my devotional, bible study, Sunday morning service, Sunday evening service, discussion with friends, Wednesday service, etc….. you get the picture. Sometimes even though we know things, our eyes can be opened to seeing this thing in a new perspective. Let me try to explain.
As believers, when we place our faith and trust in Jesus, all our sins are wiped away.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Familiar verse right? Let me go on. God always provides a way out of temptation. Every. Single. Time.
1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Another familiar verse, right? Well this week I’ve started to look at sin and temptation in another way. Sin does not control my life, unless I let it. Sin does not have power over me, unless I allow it. Sin is not the boss of me, unless I enable it to be. See a theme here? I used to think that I was powerless against the temptation of sin. And I’m not talking about just the big sins – I’m talking about even the tiniest sins – gossip, dishonesty, conversations I shouldn’t be a apart of, letting my emotions control me, and so many more. We are not and never will be perfect. Jesus is the only perfect person to ever walk on this planet. But….
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Dominion means to have control over. Romans Chapter 6 tells believers how they should be living, and the verse that sticks out to me the most is this one. Sin does not control us. I typically don’t stray away from my KJV very often, but I do like how the AMPC Bible states the verse: “For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God’s favor and mercy]. ”
Friends, we do not need to allow sin to get the best of us, and this goes for all those little sins that we don’t even think about. We are free from the bondage of sin. Let’s all rejoice in that!
What’s been on your heart this week friends? I hope you’ll share in the comments, and please don’t forget to visit my friends and see what they’re sharing this week!
