About the Book
Inspired by thirty family heirloom quilts, each devotion depicts the enduring legacy of faith, family and tradition. Rich, personal, sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, each reading provides a lesson and encouragement from the faithful women who crafted the quilts.
Full-color photographs of each quilt show the style and artistry of each beautiful work. The quilts, sewn by several generations over more than one-hundred years, are as unique and lovely as the hands that created them. The oldest was buried during the Civil War to keep it safe and the author’s mother created the newest in the last years of her life.
Ramona made me feel like I was sitting in a rocking chair on her front porch having some coffee with my best friend. I felt such a personal connection to her as I read through each and every devotional. Not only were the quilts beautiful, but the tales they wove together with each stitch was so amazing and heart warming. Yes, some of these stories were sad. But most of them were good life lessons that not only applied to our lives today, but mirrored several biblical messages.
I liked the set up of each devotional. Started with an applicable bible verse, the story behind the quilt or what the author learned from the quilt, had a paragraph or two tying it to a bible theme or lesson, and ending with an example of how to pray for what you’ve just read. I appreciate an author who can tie a biblical lesson to real life. Each and every lesson Ramona learned throughout this story was relatable, and I felt they were stories I could share with my daughter.
Anyone who loves quilts, has made a quilt, has seen a quilt, or has heard of a quilt will enjoy this devotional. Not only will you learn about quilting along the way, you may also find you learn a little something about yourself.
