My Perspective
I think this is my favorite book to date by Caryl McAdoo! I like that she always writes about real people. People who sin, people who aren’t perfect, and people that try their best to rely on God. Let’s just say that she is not a “Christian fluff” author, and I am okay with that. This story was no exception, and I thought the main storyline was great. My heart went out to Emma Lee. I mean, if I found out my husband had fathered a child years ago, I cannot say that I would react with as much poise and grace as she did.
There’s one thing that stood out to me, that really makes me think about so many children in need. At first, you think Cody is going to be a punk. His mother had given up on him, he was in reform school, and it seemed as though life handed him a bad deck. I had already made up my mind not to like him. Apparently Caryl McAdoo had a different idea for his character. I think at the end of the day, Cody just needed someone to love him, and if that doesn’t mirror troubled kids today, I don’t know what does. By the middle of the book, I grew to love Cody and his character. I actually had to keep reminding myself that he was only twelve. He just acted so much more mature!
This is an easy story to like. It has adventure, tenderness, forgiveness, hardship, family, and love. I hope that Cody’s story doesn’t end here. I’d like to see what lies in his future! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
About the Author
Caryl McAdoo prays her story brings God glory, and a quick scroll through her novels’ rankings by Christian readers attests to the Father’s faithfulness. She loves writing almost as much as singing the new songs He gives her—look her up on YouTube to hear a few. Her high school sweetheart husband won her heart fifty-two years ago, and now they share four children and seventeen grandsugars. Ron and Caryl live in the woods south of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in far Northeast Texas, waiting expectantly for God to open the next door.

Good morning, Kay! I’d love to have you read SON OF PROMISE, too! So much fun to hear it was Jessica’s favorite of my 32 titles published! 🙂 I love reviews like that of course! Blessings!
I like the “real” aspect of this book. None of us are perfect – that’s the honest truth! Thank you for your book and generous giveaway!
I love non-perfect characters because I can relate to them more!
It’s my pleasure, Janice! I do try to create characters who are real, that are relatable. It’s true that no one is perfect! One reader said the other day in her review that she wanted to put Travis and Emma Lee and Cody on her prayer list. What a marvelous compliment! Still makes my eyes tear! 🙂 <3 I'm so appreciative of you, participating in my Tour and love your review! BLESSINGS!
Thank you for the review. It sounds like a good book. . .
