The Mosaic Collection – Interview with Lorna Seilstad

Posted by abakersp in Spotlights / 1 Comment

Welcome to the Blog Blitz for The Mosaic Collection, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours! Everyday, for the next several days, I’ll be interviewing each author in the collection. So be sure to come back and see what they have to say!!

For His glory…
The Mosaic Collection is an international community of women authors who use faith-based fiction to touch hearts with the good news that Christ’s finished work on the cross has made us one family, and to nurture affection for the people God has placed within our circles of influence, so that the grace and glory of God may become visible and personal to everyone we meet.

…and our good
We are sisters, a beautiful mosaic united by the love of God through the blood of Christ. We have experienced the redemptive, restorative power of God’s grace in our marriages and families, and we believe our God is able to heal, restore and redeem our brokenness. His love fills us with the courage to persevere, and to offer others a Christ-like compassion that is full of His wisdom and grace.

Visit the Mosaic Collection Website to stay posted on each new release & follow the collection blog for meaningful posts from the authors!

Fan favorite Lorna Seilstad writes multi-layered stories which contain a generous dash of humor. She is the author of the Lake Manawa Summers series and Gregory Sisters series (Revell) and has stories included several novella collections. She was a Carol Award finalist in historical romance, but today writes both historical and contemporary stories. When she’s not eating chocolate, she enjoys doing flowers for weddings, teaching Bible classes, researching history, baking cookies, and working with her 4-H club. She and her husband live in Iowa with their three adult children living nearby.

Cornerstone message from the collection:

God loves you more in this moment than anyone could in a lifetime.

Hello Lorna and welcome to A Baker’s Perspective! What was the inspiration behind this story?

The main character of my story is child life specialist in a hospital. I first encountered this occupation while spending the night with my 14-year-old nephew who is undergoing chemo treatments for osteosarcoma. These professionals fascinated me. My best friend has also had over 25 foster daughters in her home over the years. I’ve seen what so many of them struggle with, even as successful adults, and wanted what they’ve faced to play a role in this story as well.

I’m sorry to hear about your nephew! I pray that God will give him the strength to get through.

What’s in your current TBR pile?

Mary Connealy’s High Sierra Sweethearts Series

Kopp Sisters on the March by Amy Stewart

The Mark of the King by Jocelyn Green

Amazing list! I’m not familiar with Amy Stewart (but will be now!), but Mary Connealy’s books are so sweet, and Jocelyn Green is in a league all her own 🙂

Tell us about your writing routine.

I usually write a scene or two every day. I write during the weekdays and in the evenings and on Saturday if I fall behind on my schedule. I prefer a desktop, and I’m in love with my ergonomic keyboard!

Those are so neat! If you could have dinner with any character, who would you pick? What would you eat? What would you talk about?

Since I just finished reading Elizabeth Peters “Amelia Peabody Series”, I’d love to sit down with Amelia. She is head-strong, confident female Egyptologist in the late 1800s with a wonderful sense of humor and a deep devotion to her family. I’d love to hear more antics about her son Ramses and more of her exploits. What would we eat? Knowing Amelia, she’d have the situation well in hand. I wouldn’t dare make a suggestion.

She sounds like someone I would like to chat with too.

Favorite dessert?

Mile-High Chocolate Cake from The Cheesecake Factory

I pretty much anything from The Cheesecake Factory! If you weren’t an author right now, what would you be doing?

Coordinating weddings

Oh that would be so fun! Favorite bible verse?

Romans 8:38-39

Amen!

You’re on a stranded island and you can only have one book with you. What would you pick and why?

The Bible. No matter how many times I read it, I find something fresh and new.

Isn’t it amazing how God’s Word can do that!?

Do your characters ever talk to you at odd times?

Absolutely! My characters tend to talk a lot when I’m taking a bath.

So do you have a paper and pen nearby to take notes? Make sure not to get it wet 😉

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve written notes on for a story idea?

I’ve been working on some possible future mysteries, so I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to decide the best way to kill someone– on paper, of course.

Of course!

What are you working on next?

I’m trying to create a historical Christian mystery series. I love to read series because I hate to say goodbye to the characters, so I hope there are others out there like me.

Oh I would be very interested in that! Thank you so much for stopping by today!
