The Mountain Midwife by Laurie Alice Eakes

This is the first book I have read of Laurie Alice Eakes and I can assure you that it will not be the last. I was so engrossed in the storyline that I read the book in one day. I have to admit, it has been a little while that I have done that!
I was in love with the book after the first chapter when Ashley helped a young woman have a baby. Sounds simple right? Wrong. There was clearly something wrong when a rough looking man bring a a young lady to a midwife in the middle of the night and then shows no emotion towards her. I was so impressed with Ashley’s bravery. It can’t be easy living alone in the mountains and having a knock in the middle of the night wake you up. And when there is a strange pick up truck that seems to make trouble, Ashley does not let it bring her down. She still stays in her home so she can take care of her patients.
A mysterious phone call from someone claiming to be his mother brings city boy Hunter McDermott into the picture. I could feel the confusion he had wondering what brought this strange woman to say he was his mother. And when he confronted his parents about it, I could see the emotion of all the characters. I enjoyed seeing. His search for this woman. I think it ended up being a self discovery trip as well.
The other thing I enjoyed about this book was the authors attention to detail about the scenes. I could picture myself in these mountains with the beautiful scenery all around. I could see each setting as if I were a part of them. I find that some authors overlook that, but rather focus on the dialog. I appreciate getting the big picture which makes the story come alive even more for me.
I recommend this books to all book lovers, even if it is outside of your typically book list!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review which I have given.
